Position Overview:

We seek a world class VP of Engineering to helm our engineering vision, lead a team of talented engineers, and help accelerate the veracity of information in this digital age.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Provide day-to-day management of the engineering team, ensuring they deliver top-tier products and services on schedule and at performance and cost targets.
  • Strategy Formation: Develop, implement, and oversee engineering development strategies that resonate with our company's goals.
  • Reliability & Scalability Assurance: Define and manage engineering programs that deliver reliability and scalability by design. Ensure that requirements are verifiable and can be supported by automated test suites and scriptable QA processes. Ensure that architectural designs satisfy data volume, velocity, and variety projections as well as forecasts for growth in user seats and the attendant challenges of multi-tenancy and concurrency.
  • Cross-team Collaboration: Engage synergistically with adjacent functional teams, including product, ML/AI R&D, Intel, and the Commercial departments.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Data Processing Expertise: Possess hands-on experience in building large-scale data processing pipelines, especially with conversational social media data.
    • Software Engineering Expertise: Demonstrate robust personal skills in software development, architectural design, and cloud-based infrastructures.
    • Scalable AI Systems Experience: Possess demonstrated hands-on experience with large-scale streaming data systems, including experiences in scaling ElasticSearch databases, network analysis, extensive AI enrichment, and large-scale text clustering.
  • Startup Agility: Thrive in the fast-paced ecosystem of a startup, preferring its spontaneity over the bureaucracy of larger entities. However, maintain a process-orientation to preserve order, maximize effectiveness within capacity and resource constraints, and deliver operational efficiency and top-notch production systems.
  • Budgetary Skills: Draw on past experiences to formulate and oversee engineering budgets and resource plans, and proactively manage the performance/reliability/cost tradeoffs in implementations and deployments.
  • Talent Acquisition: Identify, attract, and onboard top-tier engineering talent that aligns with our company's vision and technical demands.
  • Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, marked by the successful stewardship of large-scale projects.
  • Leadership Prowess: 5+ years in leadership roles, specifically as a VP in engineering. Prior experience in Series B or similar stage companies.
  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Clear Communication: Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, adept at bridging technical and non-technical audiences to communicate clearly and purposefully with stakeholders. .
  • Methodological Approach: Proficiency with Agile methodologies and tools.
  • Location: While our preferred location is New York, NY, we recognize the importance of flexibility and the value of hybrid work. As such, this position is open to remote candidates who can travel to the New York office a minimum of two times each quarter.
