Role Summary

Ontic is hiring an Associate Software Engineer to contribute to the development of backend systems that power our SaaS platform. This role is intended for early-career engineers who are building strong foundations in backend development and software engineering practices. You will work closely with experienced engineers to develop features, fix issues, and improve existing systems, while learning how to build scalable and reliable backend services. Your focus will be on writing high-quality code, understanding system fundamentals, and growing into an independent contributor.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Implementation

• Contribute to building backend services and features using Java, Spring Boot, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch

• Implement well-defined tasks and components with guidance from senior engineers

Code Quality & Best Practices

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following established engineering

• standards

• Participate in code reviews and apply feedback to improve code quality

Learning & Technical Growth

• Build understanding of backend systems, APIs, and data models

• Learn and apply best practices in debugging, testing, and performance optimization

Collaboration

• Work with engineers and product teams to deliver assigned tasks

• Communicate progress, blockers, and questions clearly

Production Awareness

• Support basic debugging and issue resolution in development and production environments

• Develop familiarity with logging, monitoring, and system reliability concepts

Qualifications & Experience

• 0–2 years of software engineering experience (including internships, academic, or

• personal projects)

• Foundational knowledge of Java or similar object-oriented programming languages

• Basic understanding of data structures, algorithms, and backend development concepts.

• Familiarity with Spring Boot, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, or similar technologies

• Exposure to APIs, databases, and web application development

• Strong willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment

• Good problem-solving ability and attention to detail

• Effective communication and collaboration skills

• Hands-on experience through academic, personal, or open-source projects

• Familiarity with Git or version control systems

• Exposure to cloud platforms or modern development tools
